Pub Pays For Assistance Puppy Training

Assistance dogs help disabled people

A new puppy has been bought by a pub to be trained to help disabled people.

Orchid, a golden retriever puppy who is six months old, has been bought by the Royal Standard in Vanbrugh Park after a fundraising effort that included raffles and quiz nights.

According to News Shopper, the pub even made an ale as part of its efforts to raise the money to buy Canine Partners the new addition.

Orchid will now be taught by the charity to be an assistance dog to disabled people and will learn 110 orders.

Her training will cost £8,500 and take a year and a half.

A member of Assistance Dogs UK, Assistance Dogs Europe and Assistance Dogs International, Canine Partners trains dogs to help give disabled people greater independence.

It offers a scheme by which puppies can be adopted for £1 a week.

Canine Partners was registered as a charity in 1990.
